Aah ..the memories... people lining up to see us on a Thursday night on the Gold Coast. The legendary Bombay Rock on the corner of Cavill Avenue and Gold Coast Highway was one of the best places to play, as it was huge, had a big stage and two levels enabling punters to get a great view. Unfortunately, like a lot of Gold Coast venues, this place no longer exists as it was demolished in the 90’s I think. Tragic! but for about a decade it burnt brightly as the go-to place to catch all the 80’s Headline Oz acts as well as numerous Overseas bands.
This picture is circa 1985 I’d reckon. I remember so many great shows there, playing to absolutely jam-packed crowds. We even did a New Years Eve gig there complete with a midnight countdown. Memorable.. the place was bursting at the seams! It’s a damn shame that there is no sense of history on the Coast when it comes to music. Otherwise, we’d still have the equally legendary Playroom Cabaret, The Jet Club and the Cabbage Patch in Coolangatta and of course the mighty Bombay Rock !!
Cheers, Geoff. ... See MoreSee Less
The first concert I ever went to was one of yours - set the tone for my appreciation of live music, thank you x
Saw you guys there when I was 16 what an awesome night but on the way home I'm asleep in the back sit the owner I of the car is asleep in front passengers sit and the driver was asleep and you can guess what happened all alive no injuries apart from the car on the way home to the sunny coast.
Such great memories of Bombay Rock, great “ LIVE” bands every night. Radiators rocked also ❤️. Times change but memories will always be there.
I saw you and many other great Aussie bands at the grand hotel in Labrador. Ronnie the rabbit was the dj. It was like my second home.
I wouldn’t trade my age for anything- this era in Australia was fantastic!
I wish that I was 17 again!🤘🏼 The recent Redland Bay Hotel gig was the best! Love you guys! 😁
Alas Cairns and Tablelands has lost iconic live music venues😭
Amazing venues amazing memories. Very sad they are gone.
I agree completely Geoff. I was there on holiday with my parents in '83 and you were playing the following week. I remember begging my Dad to let us stay the extra week. The negotiations I was trying to make and the things I would do or give up in order to stay so my brother and I could go were hilarious. The fact that I was only 14/15 wasn't an issue lol he just wouldn't cave. To say I was devastated was an understatement. I cried my eyes out begging for days to no avail 😢. I will never forget that 'Bombay Rock Wants You' poster with 'The Radiators' on it the following week will just never be forgotten ♥
One of my favourite places.
Vague memories of NYE with the Radiators and B52 😎
Hazy memories of some great nights at all those venues
Loved that place!! That along with the Playroom were the spots to go. 🤘
Awesome memories of the old Bombay Rock 🤘🤘
with Broken Toys supporting … What ever happened to them ?? I do recall the Drummer , Peter , from Broken Toys played with Rusty and the Ayres rockettes for a while
Fantastic place I actually was up from Melbourne and staying in Sydney hoping to see you play there,so when we found out you were doing New Year’s Eve up there we hired a car from kings cross and drove up,best New Year’s Eve ever, thanks for that xx
My fav was seeing you at Jindabyne Hotel during the ski season. Bands and dancing at night, ski all day - repeat 😜🇦🇺⛷
Omg my favourite place back in the 80s drove up from coffs harbour on friday arvo to the playroom and bombay
Great days indeed
Great times on the Goldie
It’s a screaming shame all the great venues are just about gone.. the breeding ground of many great Aussie bands.. what hope have the young’uns got these days to perfect their craft.. 🤷♂️
I lived there every night .... till Lurrie the bouncer would escort me out at closing time... Never had a better time to any Aussie pub band than the many times I danced away the night to the Radiators !!!
I saw them play there in January 1985 I still feel lucky!
Saw cold chisel last stand there pulse numerous old 80s bands great venue
Loved Bombay Rock...saw you blokes there while on Holidays..From Wollongong..as if posted before saw The Rads at all The Gong Venues as well..

Friday night in the Shire and a return to one of the more intimate gigs that we regularly do and love. The Brass Monkey in downtown Cronulla is a classic underground former wine bar that had been showcasing a myriad of acts over the years.
Mostly in acoustic mode because of the size of the place.” Cozy “ would be a good description. While we didn’t go unplugged ..we did turn down a little ..😳😳( shock horror !) and halved our speaker boxes to suit the venue. It just seems to work for us there and the place was packed with welcoming punters who had come to wine and dine and then sit back and enjoy proceedings . Fantastic food at the Brass Monkey too. Our rider is one of the best we ever have and sooo yum 😋.
Also appearing was the excellent Hoochie Mama who played a great set and got the crowd in the mood . Thanks guys.👍 There is no dance floor as such ,but somehow people make room to get in front of the stage and rock out , work off a bit of dinner and have some fun . The atmosphere was great and we had a fun night indeed .
Thanks heaps to everyone who ventured out and made it another memorable evening .
Thanks to all the staff for their hospitality and Anthony their fab in house sound guy who always delivers a top sound for us .
Much appreciated! Till next time , cheers from the Rads.
PS. Thanks heaps Tania Theobald for taking this shot last week in QLD 👍 ... See MoreSee Less

They must rock the walls in that venue. Great place though quite small. Wish I could be there. So close yet so far 😢
The weekend saw us in South East Qld for a series of shows with Mental as Anything. The venues were the Hamilton Hotel in Brisbane on the Friday, the Racecourse Hotel in Ipswich the next night and the Redland Bay Pub for an outdoor Sunday arvo show.
Fantastic crowds at all shows with a big roll up of people obviously thirsty for a slice of the 80’s !!. All 3 shows featured Evil Twin as well who kicked off proceedings every time with a tight well structured set of punchy originals. Bloody good band ! We are hoping they will venture down to Sydney soon for a few shows with us . We are sure all of our supporters will love these guys.
The Mentals were on fire too and went down a storm with their seemingly non stop repotoire of hits . Everyone got on great and there was a good vibe and sense of camaraderie backstage.
Thanks so much to everyone who came along from far and wide to support us at all shows..( including the much travelled “Grey GoRads”😜)..
We were blown away every gig with the reaction to the Rads . Bloody noisy.. bloody great!! Typical Qld 👍We love you guys .
Cheers and beers ,

Absolutely love it when The Rads coming to town. Thankyou for another awesome weekend.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you for the Brisbane show Friday night. I had my Mum's funeral the day before and nearly didn't come because I couldn't stop crying. I went because Mum would have wanted me to go... for the millionth time (she bought me my first rads single in 78) but mainly because I knew that for an hour or so I wouldn't be sad and probably even laugh a lot. Guys you have never let me down. Thank you for meeting me Brian and having a chat it meant the world to me. It gave me so much comfort but going that extra mile and signing the venue poster for me was way beyond my expectations. All my love to you all. We are very lucky to still be able to see you play. xxx
Who else can say that their favourite band as a teenager are still touring after 40 YEARS!!!! Thank you so much for your hard work guys!! You’ve still got it!! 💕
Thanks again, it's always great to see you guys. Sounding amazing as always.
Awesome shows, stoked to have been part of it.
You guys were awesome thanks for a great show
Great show on Sunday at redland bay pub, had an awesome time
Awesome to see you guys again, thanks a million 👍
... no wonder these guys have been around for 40+ years. One of the most fun loving bands I have ever seen hit the stage. Such a privilege to have been part of these shows. Just thank you so so much. 😀
I'm sad that I didn't get to any of the shows. Hope to catch a show when you all return 😘💙
We love you guys!!!! A true privelage to see you every time... RADS FOREVER 💙💙💙💙
Thanx for the years guys seems like no longer required 😔
See you guys next time
True legends still touring 40 years on
Great stuff EVIL/TWIN !!! 🤘🤘🤘
Redland Bay pub I went there when I was to young to drink 🍻 1976 I think it was
Rads “Leagues Club Tour “ began on Friday night and finally finished ..er.. the next night. However what a tour it was! Beginning at the famous and fabulous South Sydney Juniors In Sydneys Eastern Suburbs and winding up at the maybe not so famous .. but equally fabulous Guilford Leagues Club in Sydneys west. Friday night saw a great roll up of people to see us and Spy v Spy go through our paces. Thanks very much all you good guys n gals for your support. The Spys were in fine form and really went down well.. its no wonder really , with such a great repotoire of much loved songs. Thanks guys ! 👍
We used the in house production at the Juniors and its absolutely top class ,with a stunning light show and backdrops really adding to the spectacle. It’s always been a prestigious place to play with a long history of famous acts gracing the stage there for decades. Its a Sydney icon and we were rapt to be invited there to perform. It was a great night indeed. Next time we play there the punters will be able to come by tram too ! ( if they ever finish the f#**ng thing!!🤪)Been buiding the tram line since 1876 or that what it seems like !😄.
Saturday night and we were back at Guilford and as one fan said “it’s been 25 years!”.. Christ ! We knew it had been a while but a quarter of a century ??.. well we like to get back to everywhere eventually ..but that’s pushing it even for us! The place had really kicked on .. extended out and upwards and is really quite a big venue now with a great auditorium . A good turnout too. People coming from as far away as Mudgee and Campbelltown as well,to catch the band . What legends!
Thanks very much to all who came along to what was a fun gig . ( hope It’s not another 25 years before we get invited back 😳)..
Looking forward to next weekend now ,with 3 shows in sunny Qld !! Eeehah! Us and the Mentals ..hopefully it’s gonna be huge .
Cheers from the Rads . 😎😎😎😎
PS Thanks heaps for the photos Robyn Hann ... See MoreSee Less

Camden please play
Omg omg. Where in QLD please???
Another extravaganza video from Mike Heffernan who produced our Life's a Gamble clip. Shot on film again, rather than videotape, it has a stylish look about it that lets it still stand up to repeat viewing . Even though it was filmed late 1984, early 85.. Can't remember exactly.
It also required all members of the band to act out little cameos to try and convey the theme of "A Bit of Pain Never Hurts". Eg: you win some you lose some, nothing ventured ,nothing gained ,etc. All the while treading down a trail of broken hearts... Very deep but underpinned by humour . Yours truly, was chosen to open the clip with a solo performance as " cheating love rat" with promises of re- wiring the house ,re- tiling the swimming pool etc.,while the "Wife" was away for the weekend. ( Academy Award winning stuff really!)
Of course I get busted later on at home via a surprise birthday party thrown for me.
Clever direction from Mike and great performances from our guest actors. The live gig parts were filmed on a different night at the Bankstown RSL ..( I think) at a real Rads show. We got to the gig early and the huge audience were all clued up after an announcement and then were more than happy to be " extras" on the night.
We had to wrangle our way through the crowd with film crew and lighting guys in tow to shoot the individual scenes. The look on Brendans ' face after Fess rips off the "babe" he was attempting to chat up is priceless! And Mick setting his " conquest's" hair on fire ..is too funny . I'd forgotten all about those little vignettes..
After all of the scenes were shot we then had to actually jump up and play a bloody gig! It went off ..as did all of our shows back then ...and the crowd shots are a classic example of a genuine wild and crazy 80's audience !
The script also required us to take over a street in North Sydney to shoot the outro scenes. Brian was filmed smashing all these " hearts" on the bitumen and then leading the band as we strutted down the street. He was resplendent in his big black hat again ( ala Gamble clip) and looking decidedly dangerous with a hammer in his hand! Plenty of worried looks from the curious neighbours who ventured out to have a look at all the commotion in their normally quiet little street.
Hope you guys enjoy this..another little trip down memory lane....( Was that the name of the street?)
Cheers from Geoff. ... See MoreSee Less
This is a fantastic song. Enjoy 😉
Unreal stuff. Reminds me of our mate Wardy. A Rads tragic taken way too early. RIP Wardy !!!!

It was an early start for a Saturday night. The scene was Charlestown Bowlo in Newcastle and we were requested to kick off at 8.15 . Maybe it was recent noise complaints or they were expecting a big roll-up of pensioners for the Rads😄... Whatever, we were happy to comply. All we needed was an audience. On arrival, we snuck a look out through the curtains to gauge numbers and were shocked to see a totally empty room! Just our sound guy Bobby and stage manager JD..
“That’s it, fellas .. we’ve finally stiffed big time “ someone said . “It had to happen eventually “..someone else muttered. Boy, we were relieved to find out that the club weren’t opening the doors until 8 pm! Then a club staff member appeared and asked if they could open the doors a bit earlier, as they had hundreds of punters milling around in the foyer.
“Yes, please! Let’s get some vibe into the room .”
And so it went ..an early blastoff and a big crowd that took up the challenge and went with us from the first song. What a great night! A massive singalong to our 4th song, No Tragedy assured us, that the band was hitting the spot early on with the audience. We never looked back. Thanks to everyone who came along and gave us a typical big Newcastle welcome. ( you guys were not bad for a bunch of pensioners 🤣)..It was a truly memorable gig and hopefully, we can come back in the near future. If there were no noise complaints of course!
Love your work good people of the Steel City.

Well nice thought. I usually give ten dollars to every one on the shop when I go there. One day a lady told her son To put it back she couldn’t afford. I gently gave her ten dollars. When he retuned back The young lady told him to say thank you. He squeezed me. Happy toy happy boy. Now I do it every time. Good old saint vinnies proud of your efforts. But is it okay. That. I don’t like any of the hats you bought. 🦅🦅
